Draw to Perform Online Residency - with founder Ram Samocha
“Being a mother is now a part of my identity. I feel much conflict between the label of mother and what society perceives that to be. The relationship I am forming with my son is from the perspective of the mother’s experience and showing its complexity within my practice. Recording and documenting everyday events and personal experiences parallel to my sculptures has become a catalyst for recording my life events. This supportive and intense week-long period will become a collaboration with my son to explore our daily routines through drawing and printmaking, video and imagery. I will also record (written) every activity of my son through annotations and reflections. This temporary yet accelerated focused period of time within a domestic space will naturally be unpredictable but this is what affirms honesty in its context.”
The photographs are stills taken from the online residency which is a summary of an investigative journey looking closely at trace, layering and materials. The week long residency allowed me to bring motherhood into the frame, asserting an honest, sensitive, and playful collaboration between mother and son.
